Long time karter and karting products manufacturer

Mike Burris purchases Fast Track!

Mike Burris’ support of oval karters over the years continues to grow, with the purchase of the FAST TRACK facility in Vincennes, IN (about 1 hour and 45 minutes southwest of Indianapolis on US Highway 41). Originally built as a dirt track, the seven year old 1/5 mile track has grown to become one of the premiere asphalt karting ovals in the country.

Max and Debbie Emmons originally built the state-of-the-art karting facility which grew to include an air-conditioned restaurant, permanent restrooms and showers, a covered grid staging area, a fantastic lighting system for night racing and much more. The track has quickly become a favorite among pavement oval karters because of its smooth surface and multiple racing grooves and has hosted a number of major events including WKA Nationals over the last 5 years.

Fast Track is being purchased by Mike Burris, (the track ownership is not affiliated with Burris Corp.) with the goal of rejuvenating asphalt oval racing in that part of the country.“I am buying the facility because I feel it is a good long term investment. I also believe that with a different approach to the rules and classes we can make local and regional racing more economical on a regular basis” stated Burris. “The mid west (especially Indiana) has a very diverse karting population and we want to accommodate them on the Fast Track oval and where we would eventually like to be included in a series that utilizes both road course and ovals like NASCAR, IRL and Champ Car do.”

“In the past asphalt oval racing in most areas has had a very difficult time of being successful because of the costly tire rules and bloated class structure that were adopted from the major sanctioning bodies. We want to change this and make it affordable for the locals to race with us on a regular basis with equipment they run at other tracks during the season. With a Burris spec tire rule as the corner stone; one of the goals of our oval program will be promoting the F200 engine format along side the more traditional 2 and 4 cycle classes. Eventually we will put more emphasis on the F200 amateur and Pro classes in both Jr and Sr. divisions to cover all the racer’s needs and use the Pro classes to showcase our drivers, crews, and shops who want to race at a higher level of visibility. Once the local and regional programs are established, we will eventually be able to participate in a series several times a year against karters from the oval track that Mark Dismore has in the finishing stages at New Castle Motorsports Park. This is something Mark and I have discussed but is still a ways out, although it is one of our mutual goals. In addition, we will research the inclusion of other events if they have long term benefits to offer Burris and Fast Track.”

Currently, Cecil Grubb of Washington, Indiana, is managing the 2006 Burris National Speedway Series events at FAST TRACK and looks be our General Manager in 2007. “I have worked with Cecil for several years now on various BNSS projects. He and his family are dedicated karters and he does a great job of being fair and running the events.”
